Reflections in Silk #9
In this new summer series, I have discovered an exciting new approach in my textile art by printing on various types of silk using a gel printing technique. Gel printing involves applying acrylic paint onto a gelatin-like plate, creating intricate patterns and textures that are then transferred onto the fabric. This process allows for a high degree of creativity and spontaneity, resulting in unique, one-of-a-kind prints. I then take these printed silk pieces and layer and collage them together, creating a rich tapestry of textures and colours. By incorporating additional materials and wool, I add dimension and depth to the pieces, enhancing the visual and tactile experience. This innovative method has opened up new avenues for artistic expression in my work, blending traditional textile techniques with my contemporary art practices.
This original piece is custom framed in a cedar frame that has been painted a coordinating pink/red. It is 12" x 12" and ready to hang on your wall.
